We all scream for ice-cream!

Ever wondered why a Knickerbocker glory is so named?

On this week’s Harry & Edna on the Wireless, the vintage duo where joined by local ice cream manufacturers and retailers, Gallones (see their website HERE)

On the show, the dashing duo explore the 100 year history of Gallones and learn a few interesting facts about ice cream.

As for the Knickerbocker, the name comes from Dutch settlers in New York at the start of the twentieth century. The shape of the glass resembles the outfits worn by these settlers; knee length trousers which were worn tucked in – wide at the top and tapering down at the bottom.

The Knickerbocker glory was first described in the 1930’s, and at the time contained ice cream, gelatine, cream, fruit, meringue and sometimes liquor! The tall glass allows for layers of all sorts of ice cream and hidden treats.
